Spotify Launches ‘Verified by Spotify’ Badge to Highlight Authentic Artists

A New Verification Standard for Artists

Spotify has announced a new verification system aimed at helping listeners identify authentic artists in an increasingly AI-driven music landscape. The streaming platform is introducing a new Verified by Spotify badge, along with additional artist profile information, to provide users with more transparency about the music and artists they discover.

As artificial intelligence becomes more common in music creation, Spotify says it wants to give listeners better tools to understand who is behind the music they are listening to. The company believes that trust and transparency are becoming more important than ever as technology continues to reshape the industry.

The new verification badge will appear on selected artist profiles and in Spotify search results. According to Spotify, the badge indicates that an artist profile has been reviewed and meets the platform’s standards for authenticity and trust.

To qualify for verification, artists must demonstrate consistent listener engagement over time, comply with Spotify’s platform policies, and show evidence of a genuine artist presence both on and off the platform. This may include active social media accounts, live performances, merchandise, and other signs that the artist is actively engaging with fans.

Spotify noted that profiles primarily representing AI-generated artists or AI-created personas will not be eligible for verification at launch. However, the company acknowledged that the concept of artist authenticity is evolving rapidly and said its approach may continue to develop in the future.

In addition to verification, Spotify is testing a new feature called Artist Profile Protection, which gives artists greater control over the content displayed on their profiles. The company says this will help ensure that artist pages accurately reflect the musicians behind the music.

The streaming service also revealed that more than 99 percent of artists actively searched by Spotify users will be verified during the initial rollout. These verified profiles will include artists from a wide range of genres, countries, and career stages, with a large number of independent musicians expected to receive the badge.

Beyond verification, Spotify is introducing a new section within artist profiles that highlights important information such as release activity, career milestones, and touring history. The feature is designed to provide listeners with additional context about artists and their careers.

Spotify compares these details to nutrition labels on food packaging, offering users a quick and reliable overview of an artist’s activity and presence on the platform. The company believes these insights can help fans build stronger connections with the artists they support.

The latest update builds on several transparency features Spotify has introduced in recent months, including SongDNA, expanded song credits, About the Song, and AI content credits. Together, these tools are intended to give listeners a clearer understanding of how music is created and who is involved in the process.

Spotify says the new verification program will continue to evolve as the music industry changes. While the company acknowledges that no system is perfect from day one, it hopes the initiative will make it easier for listeners to trust the music they discover and connect with the artists behind it.
